Only weeks before her son’s first birthday, 38-year-old Corinne Schelle was diagnosed with cervical cancer. Instead of planning her son’s birthday party, she found herself preparing for a radical hysterectomy.
Following the surgery, Corinne required chemotherapy, which caused her to lose her hair.
One day, while waiting for a treatment appointment, Corinne met a woman facing the same diagnosis who told her about the wig bank at the Canadian Cancer Society’s Jean C Barber Lodge. That’s where Corinne met Robin, a volunteer.
“Robin and I played around, tried on different styles and colours and just had fun,” says Corinne. “It was so easy and Robin made it a sweet experience for me. It’s safe and comfortable and you don’t feel overwhelmed being in there.”
Today, Corinne is cancer-free and thanks to your gift to fund our Wig Program, is only looking forward.
“My hair is going to grow back. But in the meantime, I have a beautiful wig made with real hair and I can cut it, colour it and style it however I want. It was so simple to get the wig and best of all, it was free. Thank you. I still can’t really believe it.”
